Side Cameras

The Side Camera [PC-1920] is an analog high-definition device featuring a 145° horizontal and 75° vertical field of view, adjustable angle, infrared night vision, and a built-in microphone encased in a sturdy, waterproof housing (IP69K).

Commonly used in pairs, the Side Cameras provide visibility into the vehicle's side blind spots.

Mounting

There are two common mounting locations for the Side Cameras: as far forward as possible, aimed rearward for monitor viewing, and on the roof above the side windows, aimed down and rearward for recording-only.

  1. Select the mounting location.
    • If the camera is mounted on the lower section of the vehicle, it should be at least 3 feet off the ground to prevent debris from the tires from obscuring or damaging the camera.
    • Verify that there is sufficient clearance on and behind the selected location to mount the camera and route its cable into the vehicle body.
    • If possible, connect the camera to a monitor or a camera view tester to verify that the selected mounting area captures the desired view.
  2. Disassemble the camera.
    • Loosen the four (4) screws on the camera’s front cover.
    • Carefully separate the camera's ball and housing from its base.
  3. Hold the camera's base to the vehicle body and mark the camera's cable hole and mounting notches.

  4. Drill the camera's cable hole and mounting notches.
    • Verify that the camera can be safely mounted at the selected location, if not already done.
    • Use a 7/8” hole saw to drill the A/V Cable hole.
    • Use a 3/32" bit to drill the three (3) pilot mounting holes.
  5. Mount the camera's base.
    • Align the camera's rubber gasket and camera base to the A/V cable and mounting holes.
    • Mount the camera's base with three (3) self-tapping screws.
  6. Reassemble the camera.
    • Feed the end of the camera cable through the A/V Cable hole.
      • Install a grommet or adhesive around the cable to seal the hole.
    • Place the camera ball into the camera's base with its white dot aligned upwards
      • This indicates the lens's top.
    • Loosely reattach the camera's cover with the four (4) screws.
  7. Aim the camera.
    • Angle the camera to capture the desired view.
      •  If possible, connect the camera to a monitor or a camera view tester to verify its view.
    • Tighten the four (4) front screws.

  8. Route the camera's cable towards its connection device.
    • This could be a monitor, DVR, wireless transmitter, and/or object detection control box.
    • Use A/V Extension cables to extend the camera's connection up to 30 m, and an A/V Splitter Cable to split the signal between multiple devices as needed.
    • Follow the vehicle's OEM wiring and paths whenever possible.
    • Secure the cable to the vehicle's wiring or body.

Mounting with Optional Roof Brackets

In addition to these common mounting options, the Side Camera can be installed across vehicle roof seams with an optional bracket. This is typically used on SUV patrol cars.

  1. Select the mounting location.
    • If possible, connect the camera to a monitor or camera view tester before mounting to verify that the captured view is as desired.
    • Verify that there is sufficient clearance on and behind the selected location for the camera and its cable to be safely routed into the vehicle body.
  2. Hold the roof bracket to the vehicle body and mark the center cable hole and four (4) mounting notches.
  3. Drill the camera's cable hole with a 7/8” hole saw in the marked location.
  4. Disassemble the camera.
    • Loosen the four (4) screws on the camera’s front cover.
    • Carefully separate the camera's ball and housing from its base.
  5. Mount the camera's base to the roof bracket.
    • Align the camera's rubber gasket and base to the bracket's A/V cable and mounting holes.
    • Mount the camera's base to the bracket with its three (3) self-tapping screws at the aligned notches.
  6. Reassemble the camera.
    • Feed the camera cable through the bracket's cable hole.
    • Place the camera ball into the camera's base with its white dot aligned upwards
      • This indicates the lens's top.
    • Loosely reattach the camera's cover with the four (4) screws.
  7. Mount the camera and the roof bracket.
    • Run the camera's cable through the A/V cable hole on the vehicle.
      • Install a grommet or adhesive around the cable to seal the hole.
    • Align the bracket to the marked location and hold it securely in place.
    • Use four (4) Tek-Self drilling screws to mount the bracket to the vehicle.
  8. Aim the camera.
    • Angle the camera to capture the desired view.
      •  If possible, connect the camera to a monitor or a camera view tester to verify its view.
    • Tighten the four (4) front screws.
