The Mirror-Mount Side Camera [PC-1924] is an analog high-definition device with a 145° horizontal and 75° vertical field of view. It's designed for large commercial vehicles and mounts to the mirror arms to extend the mirror's visibility and reduce blind spots.
Designed for large commercial vehicles, the camera mounts to the mirror arms, extending the mirror's visibility and reducing blind spots. It's the recommended side-view solution for fleets that must avoid drilling into the vehicle body or want a camera view as far from the vehicle as possible.
Mounting
The camera mounts to the vehicle's mirror arms and offers three mounting options for all vehicle mirror arm types:
- Small hose clamps – for 1"-2" circumference mirror arms.
- Large hose clamps – for 3.6"-4.5" circumference mirror arms.
-
Screw Mount – screws the camera's bracket into plastic mirror arms for a permanent mounting solution.
Hose Clamp Mount
The camera should be mounted on a section of the mirror arm where it can capture as far from the vehicle as possible.
-
Select the mounting location.
- Verify that there is sufficient clearance for the camera's safe mounting and cable routing.
- If possible, connect the camera to a monitor or a camera view tester to verify that the selected mounting area captures the desired view.
-
Prepare the mirror arm for mounting.
- Clean the area with the included alcohol prep pad or 70% isopropyl alcohol.
- Wait for the area to dry or wipe it down with a clean paper towel.
- Wrap the mirror arm with the adhesive rubber strips.
-
Mount the camera.
- Insert both hose clamps through the camera's top mounting bracket.
-
Hold the clamp closed and tighten its adjustment screw until it's firmly in place.
- This can be done by hand or with a screwdriver.
- Repeat the process for each clamp until the camera is securely in place.
-
Aim the camera.
- Loosen the hex screws on the bottom mounting bracket.
- Align the camera ball away from the vehicle, with the white dot at the top of the lens.
- Retighten the bottom bracket's hex screws to secure the camera.
-
Route the camera's cable towards its connection device.
- This could be a monitor, DVR, wireless transmitter, and/or object detection control box.
- Secure the camera's cable to the vehicle's mirror arm and route it into the vehicle cabin.
- Ensure there is enough slack for the mirror arm to fold and for the camera to be serviced, if needed.
- Verify the cable isn't being pinched or snagged by the door's hinge.
- Use A/V Extension cables to extend the camera's connection up to 30 m, and an A/V Splitter Cable to split the signal between multiple devices as needed.
Screw Mount
This mounting option is only possible when the vehicle arm can be drilled into.
-
Select the mounting location.
- Verify that there is sufficient clearance for the camera's safe mounting and cable routing.
- If possible, connect the camera to a monitor or a camera view tester to verify that the selected mounting area captures the desired view.
-
Disassemble the camera.
- Loosen the hex screws from the bottom bracket until the brackets can be separated.
- Remove the rubber gasket from the top bracket.
- Hold the top bracket to the mirror arm and mark the two (2) mounting notches.
- Use a 3/32" bit to drill the two (2) pilot mounting holes.
-
Mount the camera's bracket.
-
Hold the top mounting bracket to the pilot holes and verify that the bracket's front curved side faces the vehicle's rear.
- This is the camera's front.
- Mount the camera's top bracket with two (2) self-tapping screws.
-
Hold the top mounting bracket to the pilot holes and verify that the bracket's front curved side faces the vehicle's rear.
-
Reassemble the camera.
- Replace the rubber gasket on the top bracket.
- Hold the camera between the two brackets and loosely reinstall its two (2) hex screws.
-
Aim the camera.
- Align the camera ball away from the vehicle, with the white dot at the top of the lens.
- Retighten the bottom bracket's hex screws to secure the camera.
-
Route the camera's cable towards its connection device.
