CloudConnect: Unit Log Files

A unit's "Log Files" log the system's actions, transfers, firmware, and other device information. Log files can aid in system troubleshooting. Admin "View Logs" permissions are required to request and view log files.

The number and type of log files created reflect the device's functions. The file's name represents the system function they log and the device's unit name (replaced below with UNIT). Some of the notable logs include:

  •  log_system_UNIT.txt – sometimes named log_UNIT.txt, this file details the system's state and common actions such as recording, alarms, power on/off, and camera connections/losses.
  • log_transfer_UNIT.txt – logs the date, time, and process of each transfer from the device.
  • log_firmware_UNIT.txt –  is used to update and set a unit's firmware version.
  • log_system_health_UNIT.txt – logs the health events that become the "Device Health" conditions on CloudConnect.
  • log_liveview_UNIT.txt – logs the unit's state and its availability for live viewing.

Once a log reaches a certain length, the Unit renames the initial file, denoting it with "bak" (i.e., logbak_UNIT.txt, log_transfer_bak_UNIT.txt), and creates a new file to continue logging.
