Side View Radar: Troubleshooting

The Side View Radar is a collision avoidance system that instantly detects the presence of any object or person at the vehicle's sides and blind spots. It is often paired with an in-cabin monitor and side cameras, providing visual and audible alerts from the system's monitor.

Alerting Malfunctions

Problem  Possible Cause Possible Solution
Constant Alerting  The sensor detects part of the vehicle or the ground. Visually inspect the selected installation location for any possible obstructions. It may be necessary to relocate the sensors.
Test the detection zone and use the RadarTool application to reconfigure the detection zone if necessary.
LEDs Not  Activating  Disconnected LED Verify the LED connection to the power harness and side radar control box. Reconnect any loose or unplugged cables. 
Damaged LED Check the LED for damage. Replace the LED if needed.
Incorrect LED  Activating  The LED Indicators were incorrectly installed or wired Swap the LED connections on the power harness.
The vehicle's turn signals were installed incorrectly Swap the connections of the turn signal. 
The sensors are installed on the opposite side of the vehicle Uninstall, swap, and reinstall the sensors in the correct location.
LED Activating  but Not Flashing  The LED is not receiving a strong enough signal. Test the system trigger connection.

 

Monitor Malfunctions 

Problem Possible Cause Possible Solution
Red X Over Camera Images The Radars and the control box are not communicating Verify the cable connections. Reconnect any loose or unplugged cables.
Ensure the extension cable ends are red (the correct cable is used).
Verify the cable length between the radars doesn’t exceed 20 m (65 ft).
Verify that the cable length from the radars to the control box doesn’t exceed 20 m (65 ft).
Check the connector cables for damage, starting with the Y splitter cable. Replace any damaged cable.
Check the radars for damage and replace them if needed.
Wrong or No Camera Image Incorrect trigger wire configuration Verify that the trigger wires are accurately connected to the control box
The selected wire does not have the necessary signal Test the wire with a digital multimeter. It should receive a constant or intermittent +12 Vdc to +24 Vdc signal.
The Monitor’s Indication Bar Displays on the Incorrect Side The sensors are mounted on the incorrect sides of the vehicle.   Physically uninstall and reinstall the sensors in the correct position.
The Monitor is not Alerting Audibly The monitor’s volume isn’t on.   Turn the monitor’s volume on or up. Reference the monitor’s guide if needed.
The system signal is not strong enough.

Test the wire with a digital multimeter. It should receive a constant or intermittent +12 Vdc to +24 Vdc signal.
