A Ranger DVR that automatically transfers data to a cloud software or server is configured to "Client Mode." If you need to connect to the Ranger via Wi-Fi, you must first switch the DVR’s network to "Access Point" mode. There are two ways to do this: use the STOP button on the Ranger DVR or connect to the device via Ethernet.
Ethernet
Requirements: A laptop computer with a configured IPv4 address, an Ethernet port, and an Ethernet cable.
- Temporarily disconnect the camera connection from the DVR LAN port.
- Connect an Ethernet cable from a laptop to the DVR's LAN port.
-
Open any browser and type 192.168.10.254 into the search bar.
- This will connect the device to the Ranger’s webpage.
-
If prompted, log in with the default credentials:
- Username: admin
- Password: doesitall
- On the web interface, click on "Settings" (top right corner of the page) and select "Network" from the drop-down.
-
Change the "Wi-Fi Mode" to "Access Point Mode" from the drop-down menu.
- Check the "Show Password" box and take note of the unit's SSID (network name) and password.
-
Scroll down and hit the blue [Apply] button.
- Disconnect the laptop from the DVR's Ethernet port.
-
Select the Ranger’s Wi-Fi and type in the network password.
- These should have been written down in step 6.
- The default network name should begin with "PV_Ranger" and the default password is doesitall.
- Open up a web browser on the device and type 192.168.1.254 to open the Ranger’s webpage.
-
If prompted, log in with the default credentials again:
- Username: admin
-
Password: doesitall
Stop Button
While the STOP Button at the front of the Ranger DVR changes the Wi-Fi Network mode, it can also be used to factory reset the device. We encourage users to follow the Ethernet instructions to ensure the network mode switch is performed correctly. If using the STOP button, please verify your timing is precise.
-
Hold the [STOP] button on the front of the Ranger for precisely 10 seconds until it emits a single beep.
- Holding the button longer risks resetting the device.
-
Repeat the process or reboot the DVR to return it to Client Mode.
Return to Client Mode
For the unit to continue transferring data automatically, it must be returned to Client Mode. This can be done in the same way, using the [STOP] button or by changing the network configuration through the web interface.
