Firmware updates for Pro-Vision's recording devices are periodically released to firmware.provisionusa.com. Each DVR firmware page includes a link to download the latest firmware and a list of the new changes made.
For the Ranger DVR, this is: https://firmware.provisionusa.com/Products/Page/PD-1902
While new devices are always shipped with the latest firmware, older devices should be updated when new firmware is released. There are three ways to do this:
- Automatically through software storage.
- Manually through the Ranger's SD card.
-
Manually through the Ranger's web interface.
Update firmware automatically with CloudConnect, SecuraMax, or Connect (ECB)
A Ranger registered to Pro-Vision's storage software will automatically check for new firmware each time it is powered on and connected to the internet. If an update is available, the DVR will download the firmware and wait until the vehicle’s ignition is off to update and shut down.
The device must be able to access https://files.provisionusa.com to check for and download new firmware.
Update manually through the SD card
If the unit is not configured to auto-update or fails to update automatically, it is recommended that the Ranger be updated using its SD card.
Requirements: A computer with an SD card slot or an SD to USB converter.
-
Verify that the vehicle and Ranger are powered off; the unit's status lights should be off.
- If the SD card is removed while the unit is recording, its files may be corrupted.
-
Remove the unit's SD card.
- Use the key to unlock the DVR's cover and press the SD card to release it from its slot.
-
Insert and locate the SD card on the computer.
- You may need an SD card to USB converter if the computer doesn't have an SD slot.
-
On a Windows computer, open the file explorer and navigate to "This PC" to locate the external memory.
-
Create a folder named "auto_upgrade" in the SD card's main directory.
-
If the folder already exists, delete all of its contents.

-
Safely eject the SD card from the computer.
- From "This PC," select the external drive, then click the [Eject] button.
- Otherwise, its files may become corrupted.
- Insert the card in the Ranger DVR. When the unit is powered again, it will automatically check for and begin updating with the new firmware.
