Rear View Radar: Configuration

The Rear View Radar is an object detection system that instantly detects any obstruction at the vehicle's rear, audibly alerting the driver to its presence and distance. By default, the radar's detection range is 10 m (33 ft) long and 2 m (6.5 ft) wide, divided into five 2 m (6.5 ft) detection subzones.

Generally, the radar system does not need to be configured. However, the RadarTool application allows you to configure the detection zone's overall width and each detection sub-zone's length. Additional configurations are available for the Rear Radar; this guide will cover the main ones.

RadarTool must be downloaded onto a device (preferably a portable computer) with Wi-Fi capabilities.

Connect to the Rear View Radar

  1. To power the system, turn the vehicle's key to accessory power (do not turn the engine or the hazards on).
      • The system must be on and not triggered to be configured.
  2. In the RadarTool application, locate the "Connection Mode" section and select "WIFI."
  3. Locate the "Wifi Set" menu in the application's top left corner.
      • This will only display after completing the above step.
  4. In "WiFi Name," click the drop-down menu and select the radar.
  5. In "Password," type the default password 88888888 (eight 8’s).
      • If the Side View Radar is installed alongside a Rear View system, both will display as “Radar” in the Wi-Fi options. If the default password for the Rear View doesn’t work, the selected Radar Wi-Fi is likely the Side View.
  6. Once the RadarTool connects to the system, the configuration tool will refresh to the Side view configuration options.

Configure the System

Sensor Number

In most Rear Radar installations, only one sensor will be installed at the vehicle’s center rear. However, on rare occasions when two rear sensors are installed, this configuration needs to be set in the RadarTool application.

  1. Locate the “Sensor Num” section in RadarTool.
  2. Select the number of sensors installed with the system.
      • This counts rear sensors only. Side-view radar sensors are connected to a separate control box and configured separately.

Speed

This is the speed at which the sensor will begin detecting an object within its detection zone. By default, it is set to [0], allowing the radars to detect still objects. To change this configuration:

  1. Locate the “Sensor 1 Zone Speed” section in RadarTool.
  2. Type or select the speed (in meters per second) at which the sensor will begin detecting.

Sensor Zones

The detection zone has one overall width and five individual sub-zone lengths.

Set the Sensor Zone Width:

  1. Locate the “Sensor 1 Zone Width” section of the radar tool.
  2. Type or select a width for the zone from the drop-down menu.
      • The maximum width is 20 m (~66 ft)

Set the Sensor Sub-Zone lengths:

  1. Locate the “Sensor 1 Zone Length” section.
  2. Type or select the length of each subzone, considering:
      • “Zone 1” is closest, and “Zone 5” is furthest from the vehicle.
      • Each subzone can be of a different length, but the maximum length of all zones together cannot exceed 40m (131ft).
      • The minimum detection for “Zone 1” is 0.5m (1.6ft)
      • The minimum detection zone for all other subzones is 0.
      • The sensor cannot detect an object 0.25 m (10 in) or less from it.

Maximum detection with zones of equal length:
