The Stop Arm Camera 2 is installed on the driver's side of the bus and is connected to a Ranger DVR inside the bus as well as the bus stop arm signal trigger. When the stop arm is deployed and the trigger is active, the camera begins looking for passing vehicles through its wide-angle camera lens; during this time it will display "SARM" in the bottom left corner of the camera image. If a car passes the bus while the stop arm is deployed, the camera will automatically detect it and create a stop arm violation event, identified in the camera image by a "V" in the bottom left corner.
Once the stop arm is closed, any stop arm violations events that occurred will be transferred to the "/StopArm" folder on the Ranger DVR, creating a unique folder for each event with the videos, images, and violation information.
The camera captures three recordings for each stop arm violation.
-
A wide-angle view showing the entire pass; this view will capture the stop arm deployment.
-
A rearward-facing narrow view to capture vehicle license plates in high detail.
-
A forward-facing narrow view to capture vehicle license plates in high detail.

Camera Mounting
The camera will be mounted parallel to the road, on the driver's side of the bus, with the stop arm partially in (but not obstructing) the view from the wide-angle camera lens.
-
The recommended mounting location for Thomas C2 buses is approximately 1/4" below the lower rub rail, centered above the fold down step.
- Verify that there is clearance behind the mounting location to avoid potential damage to any wires in that location.
- Use a center punch to create the (5) pilot holes marked on the template mounting sticker.
- Use a 3/32-inch bit to drill the four (4) "camera mounting holes" on the mounting sticker.
- Use a a 7/8-inch hole saw or step drill to drill the center "camera cable hole" on the mounting sticker.
-
Remove the mounting sticker template from the bus.
-
Using a wire fish, fish down from under the drivers side control panel as shown and out the newly drilled camera cable hole.
- Connect the yellow end of the ethernet cable and a length of red 18 gauge wire (to extend the trigger wire) to the end of the fish.
-
Pull them through the hole up into the driver side compartment of the vehicle.
-
Leave 8-12" of cable and wire hanging outside the hole.
-
Leave 8-12" of cable and wire hanging outside the hole.
-
Connect the red extension wire to camera trigger wire with a butt connector.
-
Connect the ethernet cable to the camera ethernet connector and install the waterproof cover.
- Loosen the rear portion of the waterproof cover to allow it to slide down the cable.
- Slide the black cover over the connection.
- Rotate the cover clockwise 1/4 turn to secure it in place. Ensure the red o-ring is in place. (as shown above).
- Retighten the rear portion of the waterproof cover to ensure the rubber seal around the cable is water tight.
- Feed the ethernet and trigger wire back into the hole in the bus.
- Hold the camera and place and mount it with the four (4) provided screws.
-
Route the red trigger wire extension and Ethernet cable under the driver's side mat toward the rear of the bus.
-
Route the wires out of the driver's compartment through the back of the plastic panel.
-
Route the wires up the driver's b-pillar.
Trigger Wire Connection
- Locate the trigger wire connection point within the bundle of wires in the b-pillar. The stop arm signal wire is brown and labeled 489A. Use a digital multimeter to confirm this wire has 12V when the stop arm is deployed and 0V when arm is closed.
- Connect the red trigger wire extension to the 489A wire with a butt connector.
DVR Connections
- Route the ethernet cable up to the DVR mounting location from the b-pillar area.
-
Connect the ethernet cable coming from the camera to the passive POE injector cable.
- Connect the ethernet connector on the passive PoE cable to the LAN port on the DVR.
- Connect the four pin power connector on the passive PoE cable to the SD OUT connector on the DVR.
Testing Camera Operation
Test the camera to confirm it is properly operational.
- If installing the camera as part of a new DVR installation, follow Stop Arm Camera 2: Post-Install Testing for detailed instructions.
- If adding the camera to an existing DVR system , follow Stop Arm Camera 2: Retrofit Post-Install Testing for detailed instructions.
