Samsara: Viewing/Aiming Cameras

Using a Monitor

If the vehicle is equipped with an in-vehicle monitor, it is possible to aim some or all the cameras using the monitor.

  1. Turn on the vehicle ignition to power on the camera system.
  2. Manually power on the monitor by pressing the power button.
  3. Cycle through the camera views to locate the desired view by pressing the “S” button (3 Channel Monitor) or "M" and then the "Screen Configuration" Icon (4 Channel Monitor).
  4. Adjust the aim of the cameras if needed to get the desired view.

Through Samsara Cloud

If the vehicle is not equipped with an in-vehicle monitor, it is possible to use a Windows laptop or tablet to aim the cameras in real-time.

  1. Turn on the vehicle ignition to power on the Samsara Vehicle Gateway and the cameras.
  2. Login to your Samsara account at https://cloud.samsara.com.
  3. Select the desired vehicle from the left-side list. On mobile devices, click the “Vehicles” button at the bottom to show the list. You can also locate the vehicle by searching in the top search bar.
  4. On the vehicle detail page, click on the “…” button in the upper right corner of the Vehicle Info section.
  5. Click “Settings” to access the settings for the vehicle.
  6. Scroll to the bottom of the settings window and then click the “Take Picture” button next to “Check Dash Cam Installation”.
  7. The Samsara Vehicle Gateway in the vehicle will be contacted to send up the latest picture from each of the connected cameras (including from the Analog Camera Connector) and it will be displayed below the button. If the vehicle is out of cellular coverage, the images may not be able to be sent/received.
  8. Adjust the aim of the cameras if needed to get the desired view, repeat step 6 to receive updated images.


Using a Windows PC or Tablet

If the vehicle is not equipped with an in-vehicle monitor, it is possible to use a Windows laptop or tablet to aim the cameras in real-time.

  1. Connect the two (2) USB connectors from the Analog Camera Connector (shown in RED) to the USB ports on the laptop or tablet (shown in GREEN).
  2. Open the built-in “Camera” app in Windows.
  3. If the laptop or tablet is equipped with a webcam, its view will be displayed by default, press the swap camera button in the upper right corner to swap from the webcam to the view from the Analog Camera Connector.
  4. Adjust the aim of the cameras if needed to get the desired view.
  5. Close the camera app, disconnect the USB connectors from the laptop or tablet, and then reconnect them to the original location in the Samsara Vehicle Gateway (shown in RED).
